Ujima provides access to self-reliance for orphaned youngsters. Having lost their parents they are faced with the tremendous burden of taking care of their younger brothers and sisters. They are however able and motivated to accept this responsibility but simply do not have the means to do so.
This is where Ujima intervenes. Through training, coaching and mentorship the mindset of the trainees shifts from being a victim of circumstance to a manager of their own lives.
Ujima enables its trainees to get a job and keep that job. In this way they are able to take care of themselves and the children in their care. Every other day an Ujima trainee secures a job. This leads to the children in their care growing up within a family set-up, having access to basic education, healthcare and a role-model. Both the trainees and their siblings are now able to successfully participate in society.
