Since I joined Ujima I have experienced several things like; working together appreciating others, how to manage conflicts and several other important things.
Due to this lesson, I have had some changes regarding life and what one is expected to do in order to live a long, peaceful and prosperous life. I now know how to handle conflicts and also how to avoid the occurrence of one. I can communicate well with others especially my elders. I am able to overcome an iceberg and most important I know who I am and what I want with my life.

MERCY WAMBUA
Since I joined Ujima I have experienced a lot of change. I have now known who I am what I want in life and I have to achieve it first before anything else. I have known how to organize myself and being responsible in everything I do because for every action there is a reaction. I have also known how to make choices that are right and helpful to me as an individual. I know how to prioritize the important things in life before anything else. I know when I make the right choice in life I will never regret and will always maintain my integrity and dignity in life and before people. I have known the things I can change in life and the things I can never change in life. I have also known how to tackle challenges whenever I come across them in life. I have known I need others to survive and others need me. I have known that I should have a limit in what I say and in what I do and in my actions in order to avoid conflict in life. I have now known no matter what I experience in life, that experience shouldn’t be a hindrance for me to go forward. I have leant how to work together, keep time and being obedient and wise while speaking with other people/colleagues in order for us to live together in harmony of which I didn’t know. I have known that I must be a good learner and listener in order to gain knowledge.
I really thank Ujima for giving me this treasure that nobody would have offered to give it for free. LONG LIVE UJIMA
HARRIET NJERI

Since I joined Ujima it has been a total transformation. Before that, my life was not worth living. I was just living for the sake; I was hopeless and expected nothing positive in life but after joining Ujima it was like opening a new chapter in my life. Now I am very hopeful for the best things in life. I am motivated through the sessions we had, I know how to make the right decisions, I also know myself , my weaknesses, my strength and how to face the problems that come my way no matter how big because to every problem there is a solution. I have a positive attitude towards life. Everyday has its own challenges i.e. conflicts and I am aware of how to overcome them. As a person I know how to manage myself including my time, my soul, my body, my mind and also I know how to correct somebody by giving a feedback. I know how to mark my boundaries and to limit what I say and also how to stand by my own principles. I know how to appreciate other people despite their shortcomings.
I thank Ujima for helping me and giving me an opportunity to change my life and become a better person and may God bless you abundantly.
PHILIP WAITHANJI

After joining Ujima, I have changed my attitude towards everything in life. Because of Ujima am very optimistic as never before. I have learnt variety of things which make my life run very smoothly. For example, motivation: these days I have a purpose for life each time I wake up. I learnt about making choices which is making things because I make the right choices which give birth to very positive results. My favorite topic that really impacted immediately on my life was learning conflict management. It really changed the way I handled conflicts. I used to handle conflicts the old ways like eye for an eye. These days I have learnt from Ujima handling conflicts with diplomacy. There are many other things that I have acquired from Ujima which I apply to my day to day life either directly or indirectly.
MERCILINE AKINYI
I have experienced many things like when a person’s behavior is not good, I am supposed to advice him/her or correct him/her by giving him/her feedback to make him/her change her behaviors. I have also realized that i must be social with people around me in order to help each other in different ways, correcting mistakes. I have also experienced that through working together i can produce better qualities, i can feel the sense of belonging to one another; I can also save time and energy.
I have known that there are two types of motivation, and can inspire me to do something in order to fulfill my needs other than depending on others.I have the knowledge of solving conflicts. Like knowing the root cause of the problem, using feedback, avoiding, minding my own business. And all that I have experienced has helped me in different ways like now I can appreciate others, I am ready to be given feedback and also to give others, I can work well with people of different tribes, I can do something without being told by someone.

Beatrice Asuvira
I am Beatrice Asuvira attached at the Dal International Hotel. Since joining Ujima I learnt during orientation programme the following: How to accept and appreciate myself and the environment where I come from, How to solve and go about any form of conflict, How to give someone a feedback, and how to use golden words and appreciate others.
I have 2 months experience at the skills center and have learnt the following interesting things; it is good to multi task if I need to get a job or a good recommendation. Hence I work in three different department’s everyday. I work like my life depends on it. Meaning I work to my very best giving no room for complains.
I have realized that most of the workers have no relevant education in hospitality industry but I have learnt to respect them and I constantly ask questions from the supervisor. I have learnt to mark my boundaries and not eat or drink in the dinning in front of the guests to avoid conflicts with the supervisor.
Already I am able, to set a table for the guest, how to prepare breakfast for the guest and do all the different types of eggs and how to spread different styles of beds.
I am so grateful Ujima for giving me this chance.
Kennedy Oyugi
By the time I came to Ujima I was not aware of some of the realities of the job market, dealing with conflicts at work place and how to interact with people at work place. Since going through the orientation I am a totally different person. I have experienced many challenges at work place but I know how to deal with them.
Through Ujima Foundation I feel part and parcel of the Great Lakes University where am attached and do not in any way feel inferior. I am so excited and proud of my self because am now able to cook different types of food and serve guests. Am no longer shy and have a lot of warm respect towards myself. I believe am on the road to self reliance. I thank Ujima.
Daisy Akinyi
My name is Daisy Akinyi a trainee from Ujima Foundation. Am very happy for having an opportunity to be in Ujima and it is my greatest joy. I really appreciate everyone who has helped me throughout this programme up to the moment I was placed for attachment at the 711 restaurant.
Before joining Ujima I was an ignorant girl taking things for granted. Am now able to take initiative and communicate with a lot of passion, mainly focusing on appreciation, communication skills, motivation, and self perception among others. Secondly my way of relating with different people has really improved since I have worked on my pdp-personal development plan and now am able to manage different types of conflicts using the conflict management styles.
I have faced many challenges at my work station with my co workers and supervisor and sometimes the guest but am happy since am able to manage them through the knowledge acquired from Ujima. As I compare myself with my colleagues at work, am able to salute myself because I know am highly motivated than they are. The manager constantly congratulates and encourages me which makes me feel happy to have trained at Ujima foundation which is part of Amsterdam University. My life has really changed and I will work very hard to make sure I get a job. Ahsante Ujima.
